Consultation / Landscaping Services:
We encourage new potential clients to come by the farm on Mondays to meet with Tom and possibly take a tour of the display gardens with Tom. Please bring pictures of the areas you need designed and how they relate to your house, as well as your “likes and dislikes” in the form of pictures, magazine clip-outs, and even lists of plants from your memory, past and present. Ex. Fragrant plants like Gardenias, or edibles like Plums. Also think about the purpose of the site as well as how much maintenance may be involved. If you have a scaled plot plan of your yard (1/4” scale is preferred), that will help in the success of the initial meeting. If you don’t have a scaled drawing to start with, please bring some rough measurements of your site, so that Tom has an idea of the scope of the project. The first step is to meet with Tom at the farm in order to get a sense of your overall likes and dislikes and to determine what is your overall style and what are your needs. We like to work with people who are gardeners and who are concerned with mutual environmental issues such as water conservation. Once we determine we would be a good fit, step two is to set up a consultation. Consultations for each residential property are $500.00 and are $1000.00 for each commercial property. Tom will meet the client at the property and depending on the needs of the client may give a lesson in pruning, feeding, compost and mulching basics, and design concepts. A copy of your properties ¼” scale drawing must be ready at the time of the consultation to receive a conceptual rough sketch, and rough estimates. (You may want to have second blank copy of your ¼” scale drawing as a back-up for future work.) There are usually too many variables in place at this early stage to get exact figures; many clients install their landscape over a period of time and budget accordingly. No drawing will be done after the consultation unless paid separately. Designed to-scale drawings are available starting at $2000.00, but are not always necessary for installation. A consultation is not an automatic go ahead for installation. Installations will be determined on a case-by-case basis by Tom. We don’t usually do bid work, but if you need bid work, that can had on an hourly basis. We are not architects. If you need plans signed off by an architect, you need someone else. We do not work with Home Owners Associations, except as a consultant. All work after the initial consultation is billed out at time (labor) and materials in short billing cycles. The design and installation of naturalistic gardens require periodic pruning maintenance approximately every 6 months to 1 year. Perennials need regular monthly maintenance, usually done by the owner or their gardener. Newly installed plants need to be trained to grow properly into a beautifully laced plant to achieve a mature naturalistic ‘Sin Jen’ style garden. [ See About Us Page ] We offer an expert Pruning and Lacing service done by Tom and his staff to provide the necessary maintenance on any plants installed by us. We only do pruning for our established customers who we have already installed their naturalistic landscapes. Please call the office for scheduling details. 760.598.4882. |
